Deep Tissue Massage

Working With Deep Tensions in the Body "Myofascial Release" and "Neuro Muscular Technique"

Deep Tissue Massage, also known as myofascial release, focuses on releasing the myofascial restrictions of deeper muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body. "Myo” means “muscle” and fascia is the “wrapping” on muscles, organs etc. that helps hold you together. By working at this level it is possible to release deeper tensions in the body.

Deep Tissue uses specific techniques to work below the superficial connective tissue. It requires the therapist to provide a considerable amount of pressure, which can cause discomfort, but the Tara will always work within your comfort zone.

Deep Tissue Massage also works with “trigger points” otherwise known as Neuro Muscular Technique (NMT) or Ischemic Compression. This is where pressure is applied to the area then released, which can result in a release in tension or resolving.

Who Should Try Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue Massage can help nearly everyone. Many people have occupations that can build deep tension in the body: people who drive a lot, use the computer a lot and those who are very active or play sports. Everyone can develop negative postural habits.

Tara will talk to you when you meet to understand your specific requirements and problem areas and then adjust the massage to your specific requirements: you could combine, for example, deep tissue techniques on the back with a light massage on the legs.

If you enjoy a massage with a firm pressure you may just want this to be your normal treatment. If you have a lot of tightness, tension, or knots, Tara may recommend a course of 4-6 sessions, but that will be much clearer after your treatment.
